Botox vs Xeomin: Which is best?

botox-carlsbad-92009

The debate about Botox vs. Xeomin and which neuormodulator is the best is on-going. And it's a question we often receive in our med spa in San Marcos.

There are many factors that go into how a neuromodulator behaves in your body and it can vary greatly from person to person. What works really well or lasts the longest in one individual may be a completely different situation in the next.

Here's what we tell our clients:

  • Botox has been around the longest and is the most well-known.
  • Xeomin is marketed as being the "purest" neuromodulator available as it does not contain additive proteins like Botox.  Some believe that the body can build up antibodies to the these proteins which can reduce the effectiveness of Botox over time. For this reason, Xeomin is recommended in instances where clients have noticed a reduced effect with Botox.
  • Xeomin is specifically formulated to treat glabellar lines (aka the 11s between your eyebrows) while Botox is also approved for the treatment of crows feet and forehead lines. Both Xeomin and Botox are used to treat glabellar lines, crow feet and forehead lines though.
  • Some clients feel that Botox lasts longer, while others find that Xeomin lasts longer for them.
  • We've noticed that Botox can take a couple days longer than Xeomin to start to have an effect
  • Typically the same number of units are required for both Botox and Xeomin.
  • Botox is also approved for medical uses, such as the treatment of migraines/chronic headaches, hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) and TMJ / Teeth Grinding.

In our med spa, Botox and Xeomin are priced the same, so it often becomes a decision based on personal preference. And both Botox and Xeomin are included in our Diamond Membership Program - a program that essentially allows you to pre-pay for your units at a reduced price per unit.
